4 Questions To Defeat Negative Thoughts

How do we stop suffering from negative thoughts?

According to Byron Katie, suffering is generated from our mind. Often, it’s not reality, but just a story we tell ourselves.

Become aware of the thought that stresses you. Then answer the following questions, being completely honest with yourself:

  1. Is it true?
  2. If yes, can you know with 100% certainty that it is true?
  3. What happens when you believe the thought? How do you react?
  4. Who would you be without that thought?

Productivity Rules & Hacks – Ways To Save Time Vol. 4

Read Vol. 1, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3.

1. Timeboxing

For a certain amount of time (I suggest 50 minutes according to this study) do only the task at hand and nothing else (no phone, no email, no conversations, no Social Media and no leaving the building in case of fire). Nothing.

2. Wear headphones

You don’t have to listen to music, but wearing headphones will discourage possible colleagues, roommates and spouses to interrupt focused work.

3. Batch phone calls

Don’t always be available. Keep your phone on silent by default and return calls and answer messages in batches (e.g. 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening).

How To instantly Feel Less Stressed

When you face any task, don’t say or think “I have to do…” or “I must do…”

Instead say:

“I GET to do…”

Appreciate the fact that you’re alive and feel how blessed you are that you have all these things to take are of.

What Does It Mean To Be Wise?

To have wisdom is to avoid all thoughts that weaken you.

Dr. Wayne Dyer

Don’t try to suppress your negative thoughts.

That would be too much effort and, since they come and go randomly, we might feel as if we have “failed” if they keep coming back – the exact opposite of what we want to achieve.

Instead, simply add positive thoughts and replace the negative thoughts. In your head there is always only room for one thought – the negative one gets pushed away automatically when you chose a good thought in its place.

The Way Through

“Objective judgment, now, at this very moment.
Unselfish action, now, at this very moment.
Willing acceptance—now, at this very moment—of all external events.
That’s all you need.”

– MARCUS AURELIUS
